The National court in Madang has ordered the reinstatement of ten employees of the Lutheran Shipping company.
This was one of several Orders made by Justice David Cannings on Friday afternoon, while ruling on submissions made by lawyer representing the long serving employees of the Lutheran Shipping Company and the ten terminated staff. Justice Cannings ordered the company's Chief Executive Officer, Akua Nombri to reinstate the ten terminated employees by the first November, 2013. Other orders made by the court require all employees to stop the sitting protest which has been ongoing for three weeks and to resume duties before 12 noon on Monday. Justice Cannings also ordered the company to pay the staffs wages and salaries on time without fail. It further ordered Mr Nombri to refrain from suspending or terminating anymore workers until the court has dealt with the case. The court however dismissed a number of submissions made by both lawyers including that by the plaintiff's lawyer Seth Tanei for the court to restrain police from arresting employees involved in this matter. Justice Cannings also dismissed a submission by Johnny Teine, the defence lawyer for the court to stop current employees from associating themselves with a Michael Berem and other terminated workers. The case returns to court on Friday for further deliberation. Comments are closed.
