Two banana boats loaded with passengers have been reported missing between Karkar Island and Madang's north coast.
Reports reaching NBC Madang say, the boats left the Kumugam Boat Station on the north coast at around six pee-em yesterday (Monday 16th Feb). They were heading for Buson on Karkar Island, but never made it. The reports also claim, two bodies of a mother and a child were also washed ashore at Kurum Village this morning. However, villagers could not verify whether or not the bodies were from the missing boats. Meantime, a plantation worker from Kulili also on Karkar is still missing after the boat he and his co-labourer were on capsized in rough seas on Friday. The two men were out trawling when their boat was hit by a big wave, six minutes from the shore, sinking their boat. The crew managed to swim ashore while the skipper is still missing and is feared dead. PNGFacts/NBC
