The Limited Preferential Voting system has been blamed for getting wrong choice of people into parliament according to the Chairman of the Central Bougainville COE Chairmen, MR. JOHN DONA.
Speaking from Arawa in Central Bougainville, MR. DONA said that the Bougainville Electoral Commission must go back to the old system in which the people chose their leaders. MR. DONA told New Dawn FM that the First Past the Post system was the traditional way of choosing a leader on Bougainville and there was no second choice. He said according to many people, candidates are getting in to the parliament by fluke votes in which people who do not have a choice have to put 2 or three just to meet the requirement. MR. DONA said that this must be corrected before the next election. He said that in Central the people are concerned at the people’s choice but this is what they will have to live up with it in the next five years.
