Prime murder suspect and LLG council president , Gelu Kombuk, who was on the run for over six months, was finally arrested recently at Kamal village, Banz, Jiwaka Province.
He was charged with murder and attempted murder. Court has been adjourned to February next year to give time for proper investigations. He was the Banz LLG Council President who is believed to have caused the death of a man he had bribed to vote for him. Gelu Kombuk was also the leader of a notorious outlaw group that has been responsible for a string of crimes in the Jiwaka Province. Kombuk was asked by Jiwaka Police Chief Superintendent, Joseph Tondop, to turn himself in. He agreed, but a week later, refused. Operation for his capture was directed by Mr Tondop with assistance from Banz, Minj and Nondogul Police Personnel. 15 people were also arrested and a suspect injured in a shootout that occurred during the arrest. The Jiwaka PPC, Mr Tondop, was disappointed that as a leader, Kombuk took part in criminal activities. PNG Facts / EMTV Comments are closed.
