The Election Petition case against Health Minister Michael Malabag has been deferred after the petitioner's lawyer ceased to represent him.
The drama that unfolded at the Court House before Justice Bernard Sakora this morning, caught everyone off guard. Reasons for the counsel representing Petitioner Miria Ikupu to quit was not clearly stated. Lawyer Paul Mawa announced his decision this morning which frustrated Judge Sakora who said the change should've been made months ago and not when the hearing was about to start. The judge said, to come this far in a case which was of significant public interest and a sudden change like this was unfortunate. The judge asked Mr Ikupu how long he needed to find another lawyer which he replied three months, mainly due to legal costs. Sakora says that case can't be prolonged any further and asked both parties to come back next Thursday to settle for a date. Comments are closed.
