The Registry of Political Parties and Candidates is proposing a law, to stop Members of Parliament from defecting from the Opposition to Government.
Registrar Alphonse Gelu says, there's also a submission before the Cabinet to change and increase the Opposition's budget allocation from two to six percent, so that the alternate government can have access to elite advisers for MPs in the Opposition to benefit from, professionally. Mr Gelu told the Post-Courier last week, the registry had proposed a new law, which will not only keep members to their parties, but make it tougher for them to leave. Party movement has been a feature of parliament since the Supreme Court ruled parts of the Organic Law on the Integrity of Political Parties and Candidates as unConstitutional in 2010. Mr Gelu said this needed to be tightened for the sake of a vibrant parliamentary democracy. PNG Facts/Post Courier Comments are closed.
