Morobe's capital, Lae will see the construction of a new Tuna processing facility.
An agreement for this was signed between the State, Morobe Provincial Government and Hailisheng Group(P-N-G), at Government House in Port Moresby, yesterday. Fisheries and Marine Resources Minister, Mao Zeming, who signed for the State, said the project has an investment value of over 55-million Kina and expects to generate about 139-million Kina annually, in export sales. Mr. Zeming, said the aim is to encourage foreign investment to help develop the domestic industrial base, to process tuna caught within and outside P-N-G's exclusive economic zone. "The company will now go into Lae at Malahang to set up a processing plant.that will process up to 2 30 metric tons of tuna per day increasing to about 300 metric tons of tuna per day and that will employ about 2 thousand 200 people in the sector. One thousand 200 directly and 1,000 indirectly and also the spinoff benefits for us as well and the medium enterprises.". Comments are closed.
