LAE MP Loujaya Kouza has called on people discussing on social media the death of a woman in her vehicle after a police chase to await the result of official investigations.
She urged the people to refrain from using negative and emotional comments in the mainstream and social media against police. Moanna Pisimi, wife of Lae businessman Thomas, was shot in the back of her head after a car chase involving police and officers from a private security firm. “As the Member for Lae, I am saddened by the incident that has happened at a time when we have just come out of the festive season and a very successful police operation in Lae district. It is a most terrible fate,” Kouza said. “I am fully supportive of the police effort to get to the bottom of this in their investigations and call upon our people in Lae to use restraint in emotional outbursts in the media and Facebook, especially when we don’t have the full details of the case. “And to point fingers at police and say that they were responsible for the shooting is not good for the image and working relationship of the police and public in Lae. “We need to refrain from such accusations unless we can prove exactly what happened.” Kouza said she would fund more police accommodation and recruitment of reserve officers.
