Gumine MP Nick Kuman has assured his electorate that major impact projects have been planned to accelerate socio-economic progress in the district.
Minister Hon. Nick Kuman, who is also Minister for Education, in his talks with his Dirima people over the weekend, said the projects would cost up to K10 million and be strategically located from Gumine government station, Dirima, Orme – Yani, Boromil and Yuri. Minister Hon. Nick Kuman, in doing a preview of the impact projects to the Dirima people at Kulpoma, said the million kina projects will be located in places that would maintain peace and normalcy to prevail among tribes. "The location of the projects are identified with the aim to maintain law and order so that without tribal conflicts people can concentrate on improving their living standards through educating their children and engaging in economic activities," he said. He said the District Support Improvement Project funding of K10 million remained intact with not a single toea being touched, and this money will be invested in projects that would benefit the majority of the people in Gumine. Minister Hon. Nick Kuman said the planned projects included a business centre with banking and communication facilities, a rural hospital, a poly-technical college and other training institutions, and major renovations of the district administration buildings. He said road sealing from Gumine to to Mul, the boarder of Salt-Nomane sub district, and from Dirima to Olegain is also on the plan. He added that semi-permanent buildings, as a housing project, will also be pursued as part of the impact projects for the district. "The Government wants to pursue its priorities in education, health, roads and infrastructure; and this is how I am incorporating the impact projects into the priorities of the Government," he said.
