The delay into the investigations involving human right violence has prompted a National Court Judge, David Cannings to summon the Police Commissioner, Tom Kulunga and two others to appear before the court to explain why the investigation is prolonged. Judge David Cannings described steps taken by police, to investigate the incident as "woefully inadequate". This comes after Port Moresby police allegedly slashed the Achilles tendons of thirty men from Morobe Province, last May. A disappointed Cannings said the inquiry he set up in May last year should've taken two months. But due to slow pace of the police, its lawyer and the Solicitor General to perform their duties adequately and assist the court has resulted in further delays. He condemned the actions of N-C-D Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa who had not complied with court orders several times. He said the trio will have to respond to criticisms of how they are handling this case. One of the reasons why the inquiry was set up was to make declarations and orders to enforce human rights and ensure justice is done to the victims and members of the police. Seven members of the N-C-D police were implicated however two have been charged with arm robbery and wounding which didn't go down well with Justice Cannings. Also to appear with Kulunga on March 26, is Andy Bawa and Solicitor-General Frazer Pitpit. PNG Facts/NBC News Comments are closed.
