The former MP for Manus Open in Papua New Guinea Ronnie Knight is not eligible to stand in the June election following a directive of the Electoral Commission. This follows a Supreme Court ruling against him last week.
Provincial returning officer, Sponsa Navi, said Mr Knight was not eligible to contest this year's election, or hold any public office, or be involved in politics for the next three years. Mr Navi said the former MP had been to the provincial electoral office collecting forms to fill for his nominations. However, Mr Knight will not be able to run for elections, and the provincial electoral office will not entertain his nomination. With only one open electorate in Manus province, 27 candidates have been nominated so far. RNZI Comments are closed.
