Police in Kimbe West New Britain have killed a 5-meter long crocodile after it had claimed so many lives at Sapuri Plantation. Provincial Police Commander, Jim Namora says the crocodile became excessively dangerous when it started wandering inland from the Daliavu River. A community ward member from Garu in the Talasea Local Level Government reported the crocodile to police after the people failed all attempts to capture and kill it. With a whole day of hunting along the Daliavu River and luring it towards a bait of live chickens, police were able to overcome their target. P-P-C Namora says police reported numerous incidences of persons killed by the same crocodile, and little was done about it. He says police had to act quickly as the reptile was moving inland into human dwellings. Mr. Namora is warning people who use the Daliavu to be extra careful as there may be smaller crocodiles in the river.
