Jimmy Wala Tamate has been appointed Public Solicitor of Papua New Guinea. Chairman of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission Ano Pala announced this yesterday.
Mr Wala was appointed for a term of six years starting January 20th. The appointment was made in a meeting of the Commission held on January 20, 2015. Mr Tamate is aged 46 years and comes from Hula Village, Rigo in the Central Province. Mr Tamate replaces Mr Frazer Pitpit whose term expired in 2014. Mr Tamate holds a Degree from the University of Papua New Guinea and after admission to the bar, he joined the Public Prosecutor's Office in 1988. He served in that office for 26 years as a senior State Prosecutor and also as the Acting Public Prosecutor for 2 years between 2009 - 2011. Immediately prior to his appointment as the Public Solicitor, he served as a senior lawyer in the Public Solicitors Office for 12 months. Mr Pala said Mr Tamate possesses abundant experience in public law practice and high court litigation and advocacy, which attributes the Judicial and Legal Services Commission considered necessary for the effective performance of the high Constitutional office to which he was appointed.
