Japan's Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, arrived in the country this afternoon to a red carpet welcome.
The huge Japan State Boeing 747, carrying Mr Abe and his delegation touched down at the Jackson's International Airport at a quarter to four. Security was tight at the airport, with a crowd gathered to catch a glimpse of the Japanese Prime Minister. Mr Abe was treated to a 19 gun salute when he stepped out of the jet. There were also traditional dancers from Western province and the Hela wigmen to welcome him and his delegation. Deputy Prime Minister, Leo Dion, Foreign Affairs Minister, Rimbink Pato, Minister for National Events, Justin Tkatchenko, National Capital District Governor, Powes Parkop, and PNGs Ambassador to Japan, Gabriel Dusava, were among dignitaries to welcome Mr Abe. The Japanese Prime Minister inspected the guard of honour before he left for Government House to meet Governor General Sir Michael Ogio. He later held a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Peter O'Neill at Parliament House. The Japanese Prime Minister's wife, Akie Abe, also visited the Caritas Secondary School in Port Moresby soon after arrival today. She was accompanied by the P-N-G Prime Minister's wife, Lynda Babao. She said she's happy to see some initiative to assist women in the country through schools such as Caritas and encouraged the students, to work hard. Mrs Abe was treated to a food decoration and textile demonstration. Comments are closed.
