An important visitor from Japan is expected in the country today , to follow up on Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's earlier visit to PNG.
He is the Director for Oceanian Affairs Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr Yukihiro Wada. According to the PNG Embassy in Japan, Mr Wada's visit is to hold discussions with relevant PNG government Departments and Agencies such as Foreign Affairs, National Planning, the Prime Minister's Department and others, on the 20 billion yen or about 480 million-kina commitment made by Mr. Abe. This is a preliminary visit to exchange views on what can be done with the Japan Prime minister's commitment over the next three years. Japan has on-going aid programmes that are being implemented in PNG and there will be new programmes coming out of the new commitment of 20 billion yen or about 480 million kina made by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during his successful visit to PNG. PNG side will have its priorities and the Director for Oceanian Affairs would like to hear them and how best the commitment can be utilized. According to PNG Embassy in Japan, the commitment also covers Japan's assistance programme for the Autonomous Region of Bougainville, therefore, Mr Wada will also be traveling to Bougainville to hold talks with the local authorities there.
