The Registrar of the Political Parties and Candidates Commission, Dr. Alphonse Gelu, has clarified the commission’s stance on the sacking of the Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party, from the government. Dr. Gelu clarified that it was the prerogative of the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill as head of the government and that he did not have to get approval from anyone, to sack a political party from the government, as he is the head of the coalition. Following consultation with Coalition Leaders and Members of Parliament a letter was sent to T.H.E. Party Leader, and Kandep MP, Don Polye, on last Friday, informing him of the decision. Prime Minister Peter O’Neill thanked the members of the T.H.E Party for their support over the past two years. Mr O’Neill said the decision was made in the best interest of the government, and the country. He went on to say it was important to maintain a cohesive government, and the action of THE party leaders had not been in the best interests of the nation. The Prime Minister said the Government differed with the views of the THE Party, and it was appropriate that they part ways. The Registrar of the Political Parties and Candidates Commission, Dr. Alphonse Gelu, has clarified the commission’s stance on the sacking of the Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party, from the government.
