Training to enhance crop production with a focus on building the skills of the nation’s youth continue to be key partnership activities for Papua New Guinea and Israel.
These bilateral issues were among topics of discussion when Israel’s Ambassador-designate to Papua New Guinea Shmuel Ben-Shmuel, who presented his letter of introduction to the Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill last week. The Prime Minister welcomed the Ambassador and expressed his intention to see Papua New Guinea’s relationship with Israel continue to grow in areas of mutual interest. "Papua New Guinea has a strong and meaningful friendship with Israel,” Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said following the meeting. "We are particularly appreciative of the support and advice that Israel is providing as we develop our national service program. "The skills gained through this program will enable our children to earn a better living and make an even greater contribution to nation building. "This training is particularly relevant to building youth capabilities in agriculture as well as other trade skills.” He said Israeli training and expertise relating to agriculture is particularly important for Papua New Guinea. "In the area of agricultural, Israeli farmers are amongst the best in the world at maximising crop yield despite facing pressures such as poor water availability,” Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill said. "With predictions of reduced rainfall in Papua New Guinea this year, learning from Israeli farming experience is very important for our agricultural sector.” A senior delegation of Government officials and business people, led by the Prime Minister, visited Israel in October 2013. During this visit a declaration of cooperation was signed between the two governments. Comments are closed.
