Investigations have begun into the alleged bashing of a lecturer from the University of PNG (UPNG) by police officers this week.NCD Metropolitan Superintendent, Andy Bawa today said names of two police officers had already been given to him.Bawa said there were “quite a number of police officers” that were currently under investigation.He said if they were found guilty, they will be suspended and face criminal charges.“We will not stop until we get to the bottomof this. If the allegations are true, we will see that appropriate action is taken againstthese officers,” said Bawa.He went on to say that the incident was justone of many that were being investigated. But he assured the public that police officers who were found guilty of police brutality would face the full face of the law.“Our job as police officers is to protect the public. No one is above the law,” said Bawa.The lecturer, Francis Essy is currently recovering in hospital after sustaining injuries to his head from the bashing.
