The flow of traffic along the Okuk Highway returned to normal after 4pm today, and will continue until 8am tomorrow, following a visit by the Works Minister Francis Awesa and Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso to the landslide affected area this morning.
Director Provincial Radio NBC Eastern Highlands, Agnes Inape told NBC News today, landowners have agreed for work to begin after Minister Awesa assured the Landowners that the National Executive Council will be meeting tomorrow to look into their demands. She says workmen are slowly clearing the debris and mud at the site, while also looking for the bodies of the eight people, believed to be still buried by dirt. Mrs. Inape says flow of traffic will be stopped tomorrow morning to allow workmen to continue work on clearing. Eastern Highlands Provincial Police Commander Superintendent John Kale has assured the safety of the travelling public during the night, as there will be police and defence personnel presence in the area.
