PNG Police Minister Robert Atiyafa says the constabulary is working on a policy that will prevent police personnel across the country carrying guns in public during big events and other specific operations.
Minister Atiyafa told Parliament this morning, this idea follows the successful security operation in the just-concluded 15th Pacific Games in Port Moresby - the first massive combined operation conducted without using firearms. "First time, first time tru ol disciplined forces blong yumi ino usim gun," Mr Atiyafa said. "Ol i sanap na ol usim PR na mekim game i kam gut na ol citizens blong yumi i respectim ol polis man na meri taim ol ino usim gun, ol ino lukim gun ol polis man i holim." " Mipla i wantaim Commissionmer na hierarchy mipla i sindaun na mekim wanpla policy nau we ol polis man na meri ino usim gun ken long ol bikpla events or even long ol road blocks na ol kain samting." " Taim blong usim gun na poretim ol citizens blong yumi mas stop hia," Mr Atiyafa said. NBC News
