Morobe Governor, Kelly Naru has directed the Lae City Lord Mayor, Koim Trilu Leahy, and City Manager, Roy Kameng, to impose a total ban on street vending in Lae city.
He also called for inspection to be carried out on all Asian run shops, which the protestors say, encourages street vending. This is in response to the petition delivered to him and the Morobe leaders present at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium today. The petition calls for the removal of street vending in the city which has been the main cause for pick pocketing and other criminal activities. The Morobeans mainly youths have given the Morobe Provincial Government, a 7-day ultimatum for the government to respond.
