Three Fraud Squad Officers in Port Moresby, have been taken to the Boroko Police Station to be charged and are expected to appear in the Waigani Committal Court, tomorrow.
The trio surrendered to armed policemen, who went to arrest them at their Konedobu office this morning, after instructions from the Fraud Director, Chief Inspector, Mathew Damaru, to do so, to ease tension there. Mr. Damaru earlier told NBC News, the armed policemen, who convoyed in vehicles, surrounded the office, forcing his 10 officers to lock themselves in the building. Deputy Commissioner Operations, Jim Andrews and Commander N-C-D, Jerry Frank, gave instructions for the three fraud officers arrest, in relation to the assault of Police Lawyer, Sam Bonner. Bonner filed a complaint alleging assault by the fraud officers who went to arrest him in July, for his part in the Paraka case. Mr. Damaru said, Bonner tried to resist arrest and in the process was manhandled and injured, hence his complaint against the officers concerned. He said, the situation at the National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Office at Konedobu, is back to normal.
