Four people travelling on a wooden raft on the Strikland river have fallen into the river and drowned this morning.
According to Hela PPC Marke Yangen, the four people were on their way back from the Sepik side of the Border, as these were the Awa people of Lake Kopiago who share the border with Sandaun Province. PPC Yangen says that from reports he got from Vice President of Kopiago LLG, the Strikland river was rough at the time the four deceased were travelling back on the rafts and they capsized with their load of betelnuts into the river and drowned. PPC Yangen says his men will be deployed to the area to recover and search for their bodies.
