A three men bench ruling at the Waigani Supreme Court toady dismissed an election petition filed by the Former Western Highlands Governor Tom Olga in 2012. The petition was filed on 10 grounds but the two main arguments that were considered by the National Court and granted trial back in October last year were based on the 21 ballot boxes that were not counted after the absolute majority and the 2nd one is the 30,000 ballot papers that were not legitimate as names were not on the common roll. Current Governor Paias Wingti filed an appeal to the Supreme Court to review Justice Colin Makail’s decision for the petition to stand trial and the ruling for that appeal was made today. Justice Salatiel Lenalia ruled that the mentioned ballot boxes did not have specific details and there were errors in the National court’s ruling. Mean while a disappointed Mr Tom Olga was not satisfied with the court’s decision and he says it did not do any justice to him or the people of Western Highlands. PNGFM/PNGFacts
