Stanley Haru, the man responsible for the illegal sale of Kone Tigers Oval in the nations capital, has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
However four years of the sentence were taken off, allowing him to serve outside the prison. This is to help him restitute an amount of 2.6-million Kina. Haru was found guilty by the National Court in October last year for misappropriation and false pretence on the sale of the oval in 2007. Deputy Chief Justice Gibbs Salika in October last year said lawyers for the private company should have checked if Haru had the title to sell the land. The judge ruled then that the title of the land was still under the Kone Tigers Rugby League Incorporated, and was sold without the title. Over two million kina was used by Haru and others and the court was satisfied of convicting him. Haru had admitted to selling the land in the best interest of the club as he was the president at that time. He will serve four years in prison. Comments are closed.
