The first shipment of the Liquefied Natural Gas from Exxon Mobil has finally left PNG shores yesterday afternoon, with its cargo bound for the Tokyo Electric Power Company in Japan.
In a statement, Exxon Mobil's Managing Director Peter Graham said this announcement is a historic moment for PNG, because it is the country's largest resource project, and has taken the efforts of thousands of people to make it successful. Mr. Graham said the project startup, positions PNG as a resource rich nation which is uniquely placed to deliver natural gas to meet the growing demand of Asian Markets over a long term. He also said that the revenue from the LNG Project will support the country's continued economic and social development that will last for generations,and also demonstrates to the world that we are capable of delivering. Mr. Graham said production from the first train started in April this year, while the second train has also started as well as additional wells came online, and will be producing about 6.9 million tonnes of LNG per year, and 9 trillion cubic feet of gas over its estimated 30 years of operation. The four major customers in Asia include China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), Tokyo Electric Power Company Incorporated (TEPCO), Osaka Gas Company Limited, and CPC Corporation, Taiwan.
