Finance and the expenditure of running future elections in the country will now be coordinated from the Department of Finance unlike before. This responsibility is now taken away from the Electoral Commission, which will only concentrate on running and coordinating the elections. This practice will start with the 2017 National Elections. Finance Minister James Marape revealed this today in Port Moresby, saying this is to ensure accountability and cost saving. "The Electoral Commissioner has agreed to it, that they will run the election, but jointly with them, we will coordinate the expenditure. "Government agencies, without pointing fingers at the Electoral Commmission have in their archives hire car bills, the lawyer's bill, so many bills, so many bills that keep on popping up every time. "And the Electoral Commissioner has agreed that they will concentrate on runnning the election and we will manage finance from here," Marape said. NBC/ PNGfacts
