An expatriate woman was arrested and charged yesterday for the unlawful deprivation of liberty.
The 55 year old Filipino, who has lived in Port Moresby for the last 10 years, was reported to have held her 27 year old house maid prisoner in her home since 2005. The housemaid, a woman from Kabakaul village in East New Britain, told police after the arrest that she was being paid K100 a fortnight but that this money was rendered useless due to her being imprisoned by the Filipino lady. “She would pay me, but this money is nothing if I don’t have my freedom to go see family and friends during weekends,” said the housemaid. The maid’s misfortune was reported to police at Six Mile in Port Moresby on Monday by a relative that she had texted. The police did a background check, and found the report to be substantial in nature, thus leading to the arrest of the Filipino lady. Post Courier Comments are closed.
