Six children are among eight people reported missing at sea in Milne Bay Province since last Friday.
Initial reports say 13 people were traveling in a 19 foot dinghy when it capsized near Girumia Point. Authorities say the dinghy was overloaded and the weather was bad at the time of the incident. Provincial Disaster Coordinator Steven Tobesa confirmed that a body of a man has since been found. "The group was traveling from Kalokalo. They actually stopped over at Mapamoiwa at Waleta. They left Waleta Point at 12 on Friday lunch time and were to arrive at Awaiyama around 2pm," Mr Tobesa said. The youngest of the lot is a Grade 2 elementary student who remains missing among the six primary school students and an elderly man and woman. Both air and sea search and rescue operations are current.
