Divine Word University (DWU) is taking a neutral position on the present political situation in PNG and prefers the justice and administrative processes to take their normal causes.
The University is hopeful that all parties involved in the political saga will allow the best interest of the country and its 7.2 million people to dictate their hearts and minds as they work towards an amicable solution as true Melanesians. DWU President Fr Jan Czuba discussed the position of the university community at a recent forum with students and staff at the Madang campus. Fr. Czuba saidthe university takes a neutral positiongiven the fact that there are complex issues involved and some of which arecurrently in court. He said the university community does not have enough information based on evidence to take a stand to support any parties in the matter. “Weare aware that the current political situation in Papua New Guinea is extra ordinary therefore it requires an extra ordinary and wise response,” Fr. Czuba said. The president advised the university community to use common sense and discern the issues as educated members of thesociety and view the current political situation accordingly. He advised the DWU Community to “uphold the rule of law, be wise and not to allow oneself to be misinformed or influenced by those who want to destabilize the country.” He emphasized to staff and students to “look at credible evidence and not to form opinion on perceptions.” ThePresident said the university community cannot decide foreach individual’s personal points of view.
