State prosecutors are asking the National Court in Waigani to sentence the convicted Western Province Governor to 25 years in prison.
Wobiro was found guilty of misappropriating over 7-million Kina of public money. Wobiro was convicted alongside former Provincial Administrator, Doctor Modowa Gumoi and local businessman, Norman May. Prosecutors have asked a similar sentence on the two men, under the amended Criminal Code Act of 2013. But lawyers representing the trio, have asked the court for a fine and a non-custodial sentence instead. Justice Martin Ipang has reserved his decision on penalty until November 18th.
