Registrar of the Supreme and National Court, Ian Augerea, confirmed the incident and said an investigation was underway to determine how the criminals gained access and got away with their partners in crime.
"The prisoners are committal court detainees that are locked at the National Court holding cells and I cannot say much at this stage but I have ordered an investigation into the escape" he said. The two escapees are Simon Ororo Bushman and Sawa Andrew. They were arrested and charged last week for an armed holdup at a private clinic at Korobosea in the National Capital District. The two were in custody at the Bomana maximum security prison outside Port Moresby and were scheduled to appear for mention on Wednesday, when they bolted for freedom. NCD Superintendent (operations) Ndranou Perou, when contacted by this newspaper, dismissed suggestions that the escapees were suspects in the K6 million G4S robbery, saying they are from another robbery case. He also appealed to the two escapees to surrender as they are now on the NCD police most-wanted list following their heroics at the Waigani Supreme and National Court precincts.
