Acting Assistant Police Commissioner Operations, Jimmy Andrews will remain in that position, the National Court in Waigani ruled this morning.
Justice Collin Makail refused an application by Simon Kauba to have him reinstated, after his appointment was revoked in July. The National Executive Council revoked Mr Kauba from his position for failing to follow instructions, after Commissioner Vaki was appointed. Mr Kauba filed for a review of the N-E-C decision at the Supreme Court, and is still waiting for a hearing date. Justice Makail says, Kauba, is still a member of the police and is receiving his salary, therefore, there is no need to create unnecessary tension but allow Andrew's to perform in an acting capacity as the position won't be advertised after a stay was issued by the same court last month. Lawyers for Mr Kauba are still preparing relevant court documents to file before a date is set for the review. Meanwhile, former Commissioner Sir Tom Kulunga has discontinued proceedings, seeking his reappointment, as opposed to a recent report. He is also waiting for his Supreme Court appeal against a seven months imprisonment jail term sentence for failing to follow court orders. Comments are closed.
