The National Broadcasting Corporation's Board Chairman, Timothy Tala, is now a free man, to continue carry out his duties and responsibilities.
This is after the National Court in Waigani dismissed a case against him, alleging him of three counts of official corruption. The decision was handed down by Deputy Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika before a packed court room this morning. Mr. Tala was charged for requesting a 20-thousand Kina for his personal use, an additional 20-thousand Kina credit facility for the Board's use, and a further 1-point-5 million Kina also for the Board's use. But the case was dismissed for a lack of evidence. In his ruling, Justice Sir Gibbs, says the decisions were made at a Board meeting and should remain as such, because it never materialized and should not have been brought before the courts at all. Meantime, Acting Managing Director, Memafu Kapera, says, the NBC Management respects the court decision, and looks forward to working with the Board in moving the organization forward. Mr. Kapera, says they were not able to provide the required audio evidence in court because it was not available during the trial, but still remains a property of the NBC. He also apologized to all stakeholders who may have been affected due to the court case.
