Damning allegations have come to light of a network of Correctional Officers at the Papua New Guinea's biggest jail smuggling illegal contraband items into prison cells. Correctional Service Commissioner Michael Waipo admits his aware of it. In an exclusive interview with NBC Television, a former inmate at Bomana Jail says there's a price for each smuggled item. John, which is not his real name, revealed that at least 2 to 3 officers in a shift are involved. He says smuggled items include mobile phones, phone credits, knives and other dangerous weapons and even cash: Commissioner Waipo says limited monitoring and surveillance capabilities hinder their ability to curb this illegal practice.
