Road contractors have made it the first in PNG history, to sign a 10-year warranty on roads they construct in the country.
Works and Implementation Minister Francis Awesa, says this is among reforms he is undertaking at his Ministry, to making contractors accountable for their work. Minister Awesa says, he will also not allow variations to contracts, as this is a norm in the construction industry, draining millions of kina. Minister Awesa made the remarks when handing over a 1.3 kilometre concrete road between Kamkumung Bridge and Eriku in Lae City recently. A similar contract for rehabilitation along the Butibum Road was awarded to local company Redrock Contractors. Awesa also announced that most roads in Lae will be made of concrete. The opening of the road freed a congested traffic for many motorists. Awesa says work on most projects in the city will be completed by the end of the year. He also stated, that the Department of Works Engineers is responsible in supervising all road contracts. He says he will ensure quality work is done in scoping and designing, constructing, maintaining, rehabilitating, and supervising of road projects. PNG Facts/ NBC Comments are closed.
