CHIMBU people have thrown their support behind Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and brushed aside recent calls by certain sections of the community for him to step down.
Presidents of the 20 local level governments yesterday sent a formal apology to the Prime Minister, condemning the threats issued by a minority group to shut down the Highlands Highway and disrupt other public services in the province. "We as mandated leaders remain to see the legal process take its course and not to be disrupted by any individual or group. "We want to see Peter O’Neill remain as the country’s Prime Minister and Parliamentary leader of PNC Party," spokesman and deputy governor James Kendyagl said. The apology issued by the Chimbu people came on the day the National Court refused to stay the application lodged by Mr O’Neill lawyers to stop police for executing the warrant of arrest against him. Mr Kendyagl said the Government of Prime Minister O’Neill has given Chimbu many impact projects that are benefiting the rural people and there was no reason to support self-interested politicians. "When you are talking about Prime Minister O’Neill, you are talking about your children’s education, free health services, major infrastructure, mining boom, salary increase, job creation and many benefits that are being felt right down to the rural areas. Community leaders in the province also threw their support behind their local level governments in coming to the support of Prime Minister O’Neill. "We want to sincerely apologise to the Prime Minister Hon. Peter O’Neill for the wrong perception that was created by a minority group in the province. The recent protest in Kundiawa was carried out by people from only two interest groups in the province," he said .PNGfacts/Post Courier.
