Despite the major LNG Gas project happening in Hela province with quite a few number of infrastructure developments taking place, the province still lacks discipline and a change of attitude among people which has resulted in so many gander based violence cases in the province. This was revealed by Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) Theater nurse at the Tari Hospital Aoife Ni Mhurchu during the launching of the MSF 2016 Report on Family & Sexual Violence which was conducted in Tari and Port Moresby. Aoife said the hospital has treated many children who have sustained injuries when their mothers are being assaulted. “I regularly treat children and babies with swollen faces, broken noses and some with knife wounds who have been pouched on their mothers back while she’s being assaulted” “The degree of the damage that is done and the level of the threat to the women and children that I’ve witnessed on daily basis is unimaginable and I’m not seeing the authorities addressing the situation” she said.
