A child has died and 80 other people have come down with diarrhoea following the outbreak of the disease at the care centres in Bulolo in the Morobe Province at the weekend.
Bulolo District Administrator, Tae Guambelek revealed this to NBC News today saying, four suspected cholera cases have yet to be confirmed. Mr. Guambelek says the Division of Health in Lae today delivered medical supplies to treat the diarrhoea patients. Mr. Guambelek says seven cases of diarrhoea were reported on Monday but this blew up to 80 in the next two days. He attributed the outbreak of the disease, to poor sanitation at the care centres. Located at the back of the police station, the centres hold more than 3,000 Sepik people from the 2010 eviction by locals, and 503 Bubu people of Garaina sub district whose houses were burnt down by the Watut people last month. The District Administrator could not say which of the people at the care centres were affected by diarrhoea, but believed they were treated at clinics and aid-posts in the town, as the public hospital was closed last year. He says the administration will try to see what it can do in trying to contain the disease. Comments are closed.
