UNITED Nations Development programme is seeking locals through small grants programme (SGP) to contribute in decision-making on environmental issues.
The SGP programme works on the belief that global environmental problems can be addressed effectively if local people are involved in decision-making at all levels within projects and have control over resources. “It demonstrates that with a small amount of funding, the communities at the grassroots level can make significant difference in their livelihoods and the environment,” a statement from UNDP said. “Grants under SPG’s fifth operational phase is now available and calls for proposals to begin as of March 1 to April 29. “Areas that will be focused on will include biodiversity conservation, climate change, protection of international waters, prevention of land degradation and phasing out of persistent organic pollutants and chemical management.” Concept papers are invited from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), community-based organisations (CBOs), faith-based organisations, youths and women’s organisations.
