Business Houses in Lae remain closed after a man from Enga was killed this morning by angry Morobe youths as protest escalates and tension remains very high . Police tried to contain the situation but the youths outnumbered them and are behaving very rowdy at the moment. President of the Lae Chamber of Business Mr Alan McLay says what is happening now in Lae is NOT A RIOT but is in fact a Demonstration by Morobe Youths. "It was reported wrongly on the media as well as on social media that it was a riot when in fact it was a demonstration which never got any approval from the police", he said. Mr McLay says businesses in the city had to shut down for the whole day as precautions. "This is because in situations like this opportunists take advantage and start looting shops and damage business houses and properties." McLay as encouraged business houses in Lae to keep a close watch on the situation as mid-morning today around 10am, the Morobe Governor Kelly Naru, will be meeting with the youths and other members of the Lae City Authority to address their concerns and look into solving the situation. Mr Mclay says by then, businesses should operate normal by midday but it all will depends on what transpires after the Morobe Governor has his meeting with the youths.
