An 8 year old boy is dead while 22 others received serious injuries and are currently being treated at Kiunga Hospital and the Evangelical Church run Rumginae Hosptial, Western province.
Western Province Police boss Chief Inspector Silva Sika today confirmed the Incident happened on Saturday, December 5, along the Kilometre 17 stretch near Ningrum Government Station. According to reports from the Ningrum Highway Patrol who were on site to conduct investigations, a Mitsubishi dyna believed to be overloaded with people travelling to a Church meeting at one of the villages crashed after its right front tyre burst open. He said the driver lost control of the vehicle and the Dyna flipped over after the tyres burst and landed on top of the passengers killing the young boy instantly and seriously injuring the others. PPC Sika said he is still yet to receive a full report on the incident from the Ningrum Highway Patrol team but is calling on vehicle owners in the province to check their vehicles properly before
