Member for Bulolo and Deputy Opposition Leader Sam Basil is hopeful of the Prime Minister's post in 2017.
Mr. Basil defected from P-N-G Party to lead the oldest and historical political party - the PANGU, which is in the Opposition bench. He officially announced the move at a news conference in Port Moresby yesterday, attended by the Registrar of Political Parties and Candidates Dr Alphonse Gelu and PANGU Pati executives . Mr Basil said he wants to lead PANGU to the national elections in 2017. "If PNG Party is still in government today I will still make this move. I believe that I have to move my own way to make sure that there are many things that I'd like to express and especially ahhmm we know that the Prime Minister always maintain that to get your mandate you got to go to the elections and I believe that I want to take it on with PANGU Pati to the next election so that I will come out as a party leader to take PANGU into the elections to make sure that many things that we want to address, many ideas and reforms that we wana make. We will make sure that we will sell it to Papua New Guineans to make sure that we provide an alternative government and that is the whole reason ". Basil said him leading PANGU is a home coming as PANGU was founded in his Bulolo District by founding fathers. He has been supported and blessed by Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare to lead PANGU Pati. PANGU Pati executives have also welcomed Mr Basil and assured him their support to lead PANGU.
