“Basic business literacy is still lacking among many of our women around the country and this is a hindrance to the actual equal participation at the economic level.”
This is according to the Executive Director of the Business Council of PNG Douveri Henao. He made this remark as a panellist on the second day of the National Women’s Forum in Port Moresby. “It is not just about getting an education or a Masters or PhD in Business but rather about the basic skills needed in knowing when and where and how to market your product.” “One can only get optimum value for your investment, time and product if you have the financial literacy skills.” “Once you know where the demand is and how to market your product best, that is the way forward.” Mr Henao said that more of our local women, both in the rural and city areas needed to have these skills training facilitated by stakeholders. “For this is one aspect of how we can use the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation or APEC to increase market access for women, by first starting with the basics.”
