BSP donated K10, 000 to the Filipino Association of Papua New Guinea (FAPNG) to support in their fundraising to assist victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Typhoon Haiyan, also known as Typhoon Yolanda hit the Philippines November and killed more than 6,000 people. The Filipino Association has continued in its efforts to raise funds to assist the people of Philippines and this time received much needed support from Bank South Pacific (BSP). The bank donated K10,000 to the Filipino Association of PNG (FAPNG) to go towards humanitarian work in affected areas. Roel Santa Cruz, President of the Filipino Association of PNG was pleased to receive the donation on Monday 23 December 2013. “Typhoon Haiyan, in the Philippines, was an exceptionally powerful tropical cyclone that devastated portions of Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines,” said Mr Cruz. “Since then, FAPNG has embarked on raising funds to assist those who have been displaced as a result of this natural disaster. We appreciate all the assistance that has been given toward the people in affected areas.” “And in the midst of the festive season, we appreciate the support from BSP.” “This financial support will go towards purchasing supplies for people who are now housed in care centres until such time they are relocated”, he added.
