Australia has withdrawn funding for a $38 million medicine supply program to Papua New Guinean health centres because of concerns about the way PNG awards contracts. In June, the PNG government removed a crucial quality-control criteria and later awarded the lucrative contract to a local company that PNG doctors say supplies sub-quality drugs from China. The new contract is also $9 million more than the old contract.
