Chief Justice Sir Salamo Injia wants the body of a man alleged to have been killed through sanguma (sorcery) at Tsak Valley in Enga to be exhumed and a post-mortem carried out, according to a spokesman and lawyer.
The spokesman said Sir Salamo wanted this after an attack on him on Monday as he was travelling from the valley to Wapenamenda to return to Port Moresby. He said the chief justice was doing well and had chosen to remain in the village until the matter was sorted out by police and law enforcement agencies, rather than at tribal level. Hundreds of people flocked in to see Sir Salamo yesterday as word spread throughout the valley of his attack. “He wants all issues to be sorted out according to the set procedures of this country,” the spokesman said. Two women from Sir Salamo’s Angutamanda tribe were recently accused of killing a leader of the nearby Aluni tribe through sanguma. Aluni is the tribe of statesman and former politician Sir Pato Kakaraya. The allegations are that the two women, who were tortured and almost killed before being rescued by police, had “kaikai lewa (eaten the heart)” of the Aluni elder through sanguma. The spokesman said Sir Salamo called for the exhumation of the body as an Aluni representative Francis Tanda came to Angutamanda with K10,000 cash, five pigs and 10 cartons of Coca-Cola as an “apology”. “The chief justice advised them that he wanted the person who had been buried, to be dug out and taken to a hospital for post-mortem, to see if his heart is missing,” he said. “He wants the post-mortem to be done as the allegation is that the heart is missing and that caused his death. “Sir Salamo advised that police will exhume the corpse, which will then be brought to a hospital for post-mortem.” The spokesman said Sir Salamo also wanted all roadblocks between Tsak Valley and Wapenamenda to be cleared, and that everyone involved in Monday’s roadblock to be arrested. “The chief justice also advised that the road must be cleared and the public must move freely. He also wants everybody who participated in the roadblock to be arrested by police – whether child, woman, grandmother or whatever.” The National/PNGfacts Comments are closed.
