A group of asylum seekers on Manus Island is mounting a fresh legal challenge against their detention.
Lawyer Ben Lomai who will be representing up to 25 asylum seekers on the island, told Radio Australia, that he will be arguing that their detention is against the Constitution, and that they should be released and moved elsewhere, not PNG. Mr. Lomai will be asking the Supreme Court next week, if it can grant him access into the Detention Centre, to talk to the asylum seekers, and gather statements to use in court. Mr. Lomai had made contact with the asylum seekers when they were locked up at the Manus police cell without charge.
