FRANCE is supporting the Health Department’s fight against tuberculosis in the
country. French ambassador to Papua New Guinea Pascal Maubert handed over N95 masks and patient cards to the TB technical working group in the country last Thursday in Port Moresby. The N95 respirator (NIOSH N95 respirator) is probably the most common of all respirators and filters out at least 95 per cent of airborne particles. They may serve as ‘flu masks or avian flu (bird flu) masks. In presenting the items, Maubert said: “I am very happy to support the national TB programme of the Health Department in handing over these items. “I would cordially like to thank World Vision PNG for its cooperation and for giving me the opportunity to meet the TB technical working group.” Maubert said France had been involved in the fight against three epidemics – AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria – for a long time. He said France was the second largest international contributor to the Global Fund to fight the three widespread diseases and funding from the country represented more than 12 per cent of the fund.
