The Fijian delegation to the 5th Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture in Port Moresby, are mourning the death of one of its pioneers and legend in the weaving crafts industry.
Finerom Mara, head of Arts and Design at the Fiji Institute of Technology died in Port Moresby yesterday. Pacific Heritage Hub Manager and Fiji's head of delegation, Meretui Tuvou Ratunabuabua, says Finerom Mara was one of Fiji's human leading treasures in basket and mat weaving. Ms Ratunabuabua, said the cause of her death is not yet known, but arrangements are underway with the P-N-G government to repatriate the body back home. Festival Chairman, Dr. Jacob Simet said, the Fijians will stay on for the Art and Culture event and travel home together with late Finerom Mara's body later this week. Meanwhile, the Solomon Islands Director of Culture, John Tahinao, also died in his hotel room in Port Moresby of heart failure, on Saturday. His body will be sent home tomorrow. Comments are closed.
